How does an AI agent work?
An AI agent works from three things: instructions that set its job and rules, a knowledge base of your own information, and tools it can call mid-conversation, such as booking a slot or looking up a record. When the conversation ends, an automation writes the outcome to your CRM and alerts your team.
The difference from a scripted chatbot is judgement within limits. A scripted bot follows a fixed decision tree and stalls when someone goes off-script. An AI agent understands the question in the person's own words, answers from your material and asks the next useful question.
Guardrails keep it in bounds. A well-built agent answers only from its knowledge base and tool results, says so when it doesn't know, and passes the person to your team with the full conversation attached.
Why does an AI agent matter for a small business?
An AI agent matters for a small business because it covers the conversations a small team can't: the enquiry at 9pm, the lead who needs a reply within minutes, the question your team answers every day. It replies instantly, around the clock, and hands people to your team with the context already captured.
We build two kinds: AI chat agents for text, on your website, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs, Telegram or Slack, and AI voice agents for phone calls.
What does an AI agent look like in practice?
For a Spanish sports-education agency, we built an outbound AI voice agent that calls every new form lead within 2 minutes. It asks the qualifying questions, schedules a callback when a person is needed, and writes a 1–10 lead score and a next-step label to the CRM after every answered call.
