Email Marketing Automation
Email marketing automation takes the assembly work out of every campaign. A suite of AI automations writes the copy, fills your best templates, places the right links, checks compliance and reports on performance, inside the email platform you already use, such as Klaviyo. AI suggests changes to your flows and timing, and a person approves them before anything changes.

What is AI email marketing automation?
AI email marketing automation is a set of separate automations, each handling one part of running email: templates, copy, links, compliance, flows, timing, performance and onboarding. They work through your email platform's API, so campaigns are assembled where you already send them, and a person approves any change to a live flow.
It's an automation suite with approval points, not a fully autonomous agent. Your team spends its time improving campaigns instead of rebuilding them.
Why does running email take so long?
Running email takes so long because every campaign is rebuilt by hand: writing copy, rebuilding templates, swapping images and links, adding discount codes and checking the footer. Welcome and abandoned-cart flows get set up once and never improved. Agencies repeat all of it for every client, and onboarding a new client's lists takes days.

Each client's campaigns are assembled separately, and onboarding a new client means days of exports and imports.
What does each automation in the suite do?
Each automation in the email marketing suite handles one task on its own schedule. They're built on your email platform's API (Klaviyo, for example), with Make.com connecting it to your store, CRM and AI models, and Airtable keeping a record of every run and its results. You can start with one area and add others later.
| Area | What the automation does |
|---|---|
| Templates | Fills your best-performing drag-and-drop templates with new copy, images, links and CTAs through dynamic placeholders, or generates the full email in HTML from the brand and campaign brief. Logos, fonts, colours and layouts are pulled in automatically. |
| Copy | Writes and refines email copy in each brand's voice, generates several subject lines and preview texts, and inserts discount codes, urgency-driven CTAs and brand messaging. |
| Smart linking | Places "Shop now" buttons that go to the right product pages, adds the relevant Instagram, TikTok and website links, and keeps headers, footers, disclaimers and contact details correct for each client. |
| Compliance & deliverability | Checks every email for spam triggers and required legal elements such as unsubscribe links and sender details, and monitors sender reputation so sending can be adjusted before it causes problems. |
| Flows | Sets up the standard trigger-based flows (welcome series, abandoned cart, post-purchase) during the build. After that, AI analyses how each one performs and recommends changes for your team to approve. |
| Timing | Reviews send times and wait times against performance data and suggests changes for your team to approve. |
| Performance | Tracks open rates, click-through rates and conversions, suggests better subject lines, CTA placements and layouts, and can trigger a follow-up with a new hook when a campaign falls below a threshold you set. |
| Onboarding | Connects a new client's store (Shopify, for example) to the email platform, syncs customers with their consent status, and tags and segments them, without manual exports and imports. |
Where does a person stay in the loop?
A person stays in the loop wherever a change could break something that's already working. The system analyses flows, send times and wait times and recommends changes, and your team approves them before they go live. Automatically rewriting live flows tends to cause more errors than it saves, so suggestions are the safer default.
- Flow changes: recommended by AI, applied only once approved
- Send and wait times: suggested from performance data, approved by your team
- Campaign follow-ups: triggered only below a threshold you set
- Marketing lists: only customers who have opted in are added
Which systems deliver it?
Email marketing automation is delivered by AI automations built on your email platform's API, with Make.com connecting it to your store, CRM and AI models and Airtable logging every run. Each automation can be built on its own, so most teams start with campaign assembly and add compliance, performance and onboarding automations as they go.
| System | Trigger | What it does | Package note |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI Automations | A campaign brief | Fills your templates, writes copy and subject lines, and places the right links and footers | Scoped per automation on the discovery call |
| AI Automations | Every email before it's sent | Checks for spam triggers and legal elements, and monitors sender reputation | Scoped per automation on the discovery call |
| AI Automations | A schedule, or a campaign below threshold | Reports on performance, suggests flow and timing changes for approval, and triggers follow-ups | Scoped per automation on the discovery call |
| AI Automations | A new client or brand | Connects their store, syncs customers with consent status, and tags and segments them | Scoped per automation on the discovery call |
Where is it used?
Email marketing automation suits e-commerce and D2C brands, subscription businesses and email marketing agencies running campaigns for several brands. It fits any team sending regular campaigns that spends more time assembling emails than improving them. Shops call it campaign production; agencies call it client delivery.
Campaign production without the rebuild. A new collection or sale becomes an on-brand email in your best template, with the right product links, discount code and several subject lines, checked before it goes out.
How would we build it for you?
We haven't published an email marketing case study yet. Here's how a build would run: we confirm what your email platform's API allows during discovery, connect your store and CRM, set up your standard flows, then build the automations you need most and test them on test sends before anything reaches a customer.

What should you know before you start?
Email marketing automation depends on what your email platform's API allows. Klaviyo's API, for example, doesn't support fully automated A/B testing, so testing uses the platform's built-in features or a workaround. Resending to people who didn't open depends on the platform recording opens per contact, which we confirm during discovery.
- Platform limits apply. What can be automated depends on the email platform's API.
- Per-contact behaviour. Rewriting and resending to non-openers needs the platform to record opens for each contact and let a flow trigger on them.
- Consent first. Customers are only added to marketing lists when they've opted in. Everyone else is kept out of campaigns.
- Running costs are billed by the providers. Your email platform, automation platform and AI models are paid to those providers, and we estimate them before the build.
Frequently asked questions
Questions
Answer
Does it work with Klaviyo?
Yes. Email marketing automation is built on your email platform's API, and Klaviyo is one platform it's built for. Make.com connects it to your store, CRM and AI models, and Airtable records every run. If you use another email platform, what can be automated depends on its API, so we check it on the discovery call before anything is scoped.
Will AI change my email flows without asking?
No. The standard flows, such as a welcome series, abandoned cart and post-purchase, are set up during the build. After that, AI analyses how each flow performs and recommends changes to the flow, send times and wait times, and your team approves them before they go live. Automatically rewriting live flows tends to cause more errors than it saves.
Can it test subject lines?
Email marketing automation writes several subject lines and preview texts for every send, and the performance automation suggests better ones from your open rates. Fully automated A/B testing depends on the platform: Klaviyo's API doesn't support it, so testing uses Klaviyo's built-in features or a workaround we agree with you.
How does it handle consent and unsubscribes?
Customers are only added to marketing lists when they've opted in, and everyone else is kept out of campaigns. When a new store is connected, customers are synced with their consent status. Every email is checked for required legal elements, such as an unsubscribe link and sender details, before it's sent.
Can it onboard a new client's store and lists?
Yes. The onboarding automation connects a new client's store, such as Shopify, to the email platform, syncs customers with their consent status, and tags and segments them, without manual exports and imports. Only customers who have opted in are added to marketing lists. It's built for agencies taking on new brands regularly.
Is this the same as lead nurture sequences?
No. Email marketing automation runs campaigns and flows to your subscriber and customer lists. Lead nurture sequences follow up individual leads who haven't bought yet, checking before every message whether the lead has already acted. Many businesses run both: nurture moves leads to a sale, and email marketing keeps customers buying.
