Upsell & Continuation Offers
Upsell and continuation offers put every client's next step in front of them before their program, contract or subscription ends. A date set at the sale starts the conversation on time, a salesperson is assigned to it, and an email and SMS sequence leads to an offer built around keeping what they've achieved.

What is an automated continuation offer?
An automated continuation offer is a sequence that offers an active client their next step, such as the next program phase, a renewal or a higher tier, before their current one ends. A date on their record, set when they bought, triggers it. A salesperson is assigned, and the client gets emails, an SMS and a page to buy.
It's for clients who are still with you. Clients who have already left are covered by customer reactivation.
Why do clients leave at the end of a program?
Clients leave at the end of a program because fixed-length programs and contracts have a built-in drop-off point. They finish, feel good about their results and go quiet. Nobody tracks when each client's program ends, so the next step is offered late, by whoever remembers, or not at all.
The end date is a natural exit
When the program or contract finishes, so does the habit of working with you.The offer comes too late
By the time anyone thinks to offer the next step, the client has moved on or signed up elsewhere.Nobody owns the conversation
Without a date on the record and a name on the task, the upsell depends on memory.
How does an upsell sequence start before the program ends?
An upsell sequence starts from dates written to the client's record when they pay: the end date and the upsell date. On the upsell date, the client moves to an Upsell Pending stage, a salesperson is assigned and alerted, and an email and SMS sequence points them to a continuation page with its own checkout.

Each continuation option has its own product, payment link and checkout, with payment plans if you offer them. When the client pays, they move back to active and their new dates are set.If they don't continue
Clients who leave move to a churned stage, where win-back takes over.
The dates come from payment-triggered workflows, the stages from deal pipeline and sales progression, and the Slack alert from internal comms and team notifications.
What can the next step be?
The next step depends on what you sell. A coaching or fitness business offers the next 12-week phase, a course provider an advanced course, an agency a renewal or the next phase of work, and a membership business a renewal or a higher tier. The offer, timing and wording are agreed with you.
| Business | When the upsell starts | What's offered |
|---|---|---|
| Coaching or fitness program | A few weeks before a 12-week program ends | The next 12-week phase |
| Course or training provider | Near the end of the course | An advanced course or the next level |
| Agency or consultancy | Before a fixed-term retainer or project ends | A renewal or the next phase of work |
| Membership or subscription | Before the renewal date | A renewal or a higher tier |
Which systems deliver it?
Upsell and continuation offers are delivered by AI automations in your CRM, connected to your payment provider and team chat. The automations set the dates at the sale, move the client through the pipeline, assign and alert a salesperson, send the email and SMS sequence and reset the dates when the client continues. You own everything we build.
| System | Trigger | What it does | Package note |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI Automations | The upsell date on a record | Upsell Pending stage, salesperson assigned, Slack alert, email and SMS sequence | Dates set by the payment workflow |
| AI Automations | The client pays | Back to active, new end and upsell dates set; clients who don't continue moved to churned | Payment links and checkouts per option |
Where is it used?
Upsell and continuation offers suit any business that sells programs or contracts with a set end date. Coaching businesses call it the next phase, course providers the next level, agencies a renewal or retainer extension, and membership businesses an upgrade. Each starts the conversation while the client is still engaged.
The next phase. A few weeks before a 12-week coaching program ends, the client is offered a maintenance, bulk or cut phase, with a closer assigned and a payment plan ready.

The day-63 upsell
What should you know before you start?
Upsell and continuation offers are for clients who are still active. Clients who have already finished or cancelled are covered by customer reactivation. The upsell only fires on time if the start date is recorded when the client pays, so we set that up as part of the payment workflow. Your offers, timing and wording are agreed with you.
- Before they leave, not after. Win-back for clients who have gone is customer reactivation.
- The dates come from the sale. We set them in the payment workflow so the upsell fires on time.
- Your offers, your wording. Continuation options, timing and copy are agreed with you.
- Consent comes first. Marketing messages only go to clients who've agreed to hear from you, and opt-outs are honoured automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Questions
Answer
When should an upsell start?
Before the program or contract ends, while the client is still engaged. The timing is agreed with you and usually leaves a few weeks before the end. In one 12-week coaching build, the upsell starts on day 63, the 9-week mark, which leaves three weeks to offer the next phase while the client is still training.
What's the difference between an upsell and a win-back?
An upsell or continuation offer reaches active clients before they finish. A win-back reaches clients who have already finished or cancelled. Continuation is usually easier, because the client is still getting results with you. Clients who don't continue move to a churned stage, where win-back takes over.
Does a person still handle the conversation?
Yes. A salesperson or account manager is assigned to every upsell and notified, and the team is alerted in Slack. The automation sends the sequence and the offer page; your salesperson takes the calls and answers questions, so the client is never left with automated messages alone.
Can clients pay in instalments?
Yes, if you offer payment plans. Each continuation option has its own product, payment link and checkout, and payment plan options can be added to each. When the client pays, they move back to an active stage and their new end and upsell dates are set automatically.
What happens when the client continues?
They move back to an active stage in your pipeline, and their new end date and upsell date are set from the payment, so the next offer will start on time too. Onboarding for the new phase can run again through client onboarding automation.
