Product & Service Recommendation

Product and service recommendation gives every customer a confident answer to "which one is right for me?", at any hour. An AI chat or voice agent asks about their needs, budget and preferences, searches what you actually have available, shows the best matches with the reasons they fit, and books the test drive, viewing or consultation.

What is AI product recommendation?

AI product recommendation is an AI agent that helps one customer choose from your own range: a car in stock, a course level, a service from your menu. It asks what they need, looks up live availability through a tool connected to your database, explains why each option fits and moves the customer to a booking or a sale.

It isn't the same job as matchmaking. Matchmaking connects two sides of a market, such as buyers and sellers, from both sides' criteria. Product recommendation helps one customer choose from what you sell, in the conversation, while they're deciding.

Why do customers leave without choosing?

Customers leave without choosing because they know what they need but not which of your products delivers it. They scroll filters, ask whether something is still available and wait for a reply. Without a quick, confident recommendation, they pick the wrong option and come back unhappy, or go to someone who helps them choose.

  1. The same questions all day

Your team answers "which one?" and "is it still available?" again and again.
  2. Wrong choices come back

Customers who choose alone pick the wrong option and return unhappy.
  3. No answer, no sale

Out of hours, the customer who needed help choosing goes elsewhere.

How does an AI agent recommend the right product?

An AI chat agent recommends the right product by asking about requirements, preferences and budget one question at a time, then searching your live stock or service range through a connected tool. It shows the best matches as cards with an image, key details and a button, explains why each fits, and books the next step.

With an AI chat agent

A website visitor or messaging contact asks for help choosing, or starts browsing

  1. Understand the need

Requirements, preferences and budget, one question at a time, the way a good salesperson would ask.
  2. Search what's available

Your live stock, catalogue or service range, through a tool connected to your database and filtered by the customer's criteria. It never recommends something you don't have.
  3. Show the best matches

Cards in the chat with an image, key details and a button for the next step, plus the reasons each one fits and answers to follow-up questions.
  4. Move to the next step

The customer books a test drive, viewing or consultation, or asks to be contacted. Their choice, requirements and the conversation are written to your CRM.

If nothing fits, the agent suggests the closest alternatives or captures the customer's requirements, so your team can follow up when the right option comes in.

With an AI voice agent (inbound)

A call from a customer asking about a product or service

  1. Answer from live information

The agent answers from your current inventory or service information.
  2. Offer what's available

If the item has gone or doesn't suit the caller, it suggests similar options you do have.
  3. Book during the call

A viewing, test drive or consultation goes into your calendar before the caller hangs up.

With AI automations (criteria forms)

A completed criteria form or a new lead in your CRM

  1. Match the criteria

The customer's requirements are matched against your database.
  2. Write a teaser for each match

AI writes a short summary of each option.
  3. Email the matches

The teasers go straight to the customer.
  4. Remind until it's done

Customers who haven't finished the form get reminders over the following weeks.

Can AI recommend the right service from a customer's symptoms?

Yes. Customers with a problem often know the symptom, not the service: the car makes a noise when braking, or a warning light came on. The agent asks follow-up questions from your own guidance, explains the likely cause in plain language, recommends the matching service from your menu and books it, with the answers saved for your technicians.

  1. Describe the problem

The customer explains what's happening in their own words.
  2. Narrow it down

The agent asks follow-up questions from your guidance, such as when it happens, how long it's been going on and whether anything else has changed.
  3. Recommend the service

It explains the most likely cause in plain language and recommends the matching service.
  4. Book it

The customer books that service in the chat, and the symptoms and answers are saved with the booking.

This is an initial diagnosis, not a replacement for an inspection, and the agent says so. Anything that sounds urgent or unsafe goes straight to a person on your team. The same approach works for home services and appliance repairs, where a customer describes the fault and needs to know who to book.

Which systems deliver it?

Product and service recommendation is delivered mainly by AI chat agents, with live stock look-up and product carousels as an add-on on any chat package. AI voice agents suggest available alternatives on inbound calls, and AI automations serve customers who prefer a criteria form, emailing them an AI-written teaser for each match.

Where is it used?

Product recommendation suits any business whose range is big enough that customers need help choosing. Car dealerships recommend vehicles from stock, and the right service from symptoms. Online stores call it a product finder or gift advice. Education providers steer enquirers to the right program or level, and short-term rentals recommend local places and add-ons.

Same job, their words

Vehicle recommendations from stock. A buyer messages the dealership's website chat or Telegram; the agent asks what they'll use the car for, their preferred make or body type, budget and how they plan to pay, shows matching cars from current stock as a carousel and books a test drive. The salesperson gets the full transcript.

Proof

We also built a demo for a Shopify store: a product specialist chat agent in Voiceflow wrote a store search from the conversation, a Make.com scenario returned the results as a carousel with stock levels, and every product shown was remembered for the rest of the chat. When the shopper settled on one, it offered a one-off discount code.

What should you know before you start?

An AI agent can only recommend what it can see, so recommendations are as good as the stock or service data it searches. We connect the agent to your live database through a tool instead of copying your catalogue into it. Symptom-based advice is an initial diagnosis, and anything urgent or unsafe goes to a person.

  • Live data, not a copy. The agent looks stock up at the moment it recommends, so it doesn't offer what's already gone.
  • Initial diagnosis only. The agent says so, and urgent or unsafe issues go to your team.
  • No regulated advice. In financial services, agents answer factual questions and book a qualified specialist instead of recommending products.
  • Gaps become insight. Requirements you can't meet are recorded, so you can see what customers want that you don't yet offer.

Answer

How is product recommendation different from matchmaking?

Product recommendation helps one customer choose from your own range, in a conversation: the right car, course or service. Matchmaking connects two sides of a market, such as buyers and properties or candidates and roles, by matching both sides' criteria and creating a deal for your team. A brokerage needs matchmaking; a dealership or online store needs recommendation.
